An out of the box approach to legal problems and conflicts may lead to atypical solutions. However, such solutions may sometimes serve the interest of the client faster and more efficiently.

Pierre Bogaerts

Pierre Bogaerts qualified as a Master of Laws in 1987 from the Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen (U.I.A.), and obtained a Supplementary Degree in Sea and Inland Shipping from the Universitaire Faculteiten Sint-Ignatius Antwerpen (U.F.S.I.A.) in 1989. He completed his traineeship from 1988 to 1991 at the cabinet of Leo Delwaide LL.M. In 1989, he spent part of his traineeship in Hamburg, Germany, serving with the maritime law firm Dabelstein & Passehl.

After having spent several years working as a member of staff and as a partner for an Antwerp-based maritime law firm, in 2003 he went on to set up, along with August M.J. Meeusen and others, the law firm Meeusen, Bogaerts & De Groote which was absorbed into Marcon & Rubens in 2010. For several years he taught law and commercial law at the Higher Institute for Translators and Interpreters (Antwerp University College), whilst continuing to give lectures as part of the Gestion Portuaire seminar for Apec each year. In 1999, he was the opening speaker at the Flemish Conference of the Antwerp Bar where he served as chairman in 2006-2007. He was a member of the board of the National Bar Association, Antwerp Division from 1996 to 1999 and again from 2009 to 2013, whilst serving as the Division’s secretary from September 2010 to August 2013. He is a member of the Belgian Association of Maritime Law.

After having served as an accredited mediator in civil and commercial cases from 2009 to early 2013, he is currently an alternate judge at the Commercial Court of Antwerp.
